Application of Adipic Acid in Food

Adipic acid uses

  1. Adipic acid is mainly used as raw material for nylon 66 and engineering plastics.
  2. The application of adipic acid in food.
  3. Adipic acid is also used in medicine, yeast purification, pesticides, and adhesives.

Adipic acid(CAS 124-04-9) can also be used as acidifier in the field of chemical reagents. Acidifiers have many functional characteristics to improve food quality, such as changing and maintaining the acidity of food and improving its flavor, enhancing antioxidant effect, and preventing food from rancidity; Complexing with heavy metal ions, it can prevent oxidation or fading reaction, stabilize color, reduce turbidity, enhance gelling properties, etc; Moreover, the combination of certain acidifiers and other preservation methods, such as refrigeration and heating, can effectively extend the shelf life of food. In nature, the product mainly exists in sweet radish and is an acidifier for various foods and beverages.

Food grade adipic acid production method:
The mixture of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol is obtained by oxidizing cyclohexane, and then oxidized by nitric acid in the presence of a catalyst to crystallize and refine the food-grade adipic acid(CAS 124-04-9).

Application of Adipic Acid in Food

Adipic acid(CAS 124-04-9) is sometimes used as an acid in bottled beverages and lozenges. Since adipic acid hardly absorbs water, it can be used to provide a sour taste and also explain the taste of highly manufactured powdered products such as gelatin desserts and fruit-flavored beverages.

In addition to adding sourness, the product keeps jams, gelatins, and jellies in wobbly shape. It provides a firm texture to certain types of cheese and is used as a leavening agent in baking powder, cake mixes, and baked goods. Adipic acid is also often added to cooking oils, prolonging the time for them to become sour.
